I was wondering is it normal for the head gaskets to blow on these models since they have cast iron blocks.I'm seeing oil on my top radiator hose and it's started to run hot.

Oil on the top radiator hose is not necessarily indicative of a head gasket. You also have the engine oil cooler the is in the valley of the engine. The running hot could be several things, cooling fans, thermostat, faulty sending unit, to name a few. If your concerned, have a block test run on the cooling system to test for combustion gases. If you have oil in the cooling system, it should show up in the surge tank as well.
