If a mechanic did some work by replacing an intake manifold casket on both sides. Is it possible for them to have reach the oil cooler in some way. Also, can I check my self to see if the oil cooler is leaking. No oil in coolant. But he said to repace it at@ $1,100.

My 1998 catera recently got motor oil in the cooling system. (94k miles) - I am going to replace the oil cooler to fix this problem. Total cost to me is $326. I got the cooler at a 20% discount from the dealer - thru my job and I will be replacing it myself. Also, R&R intake manifold gaskets does not involve tinkering with the oil cooler at all - at 86k miles they are only suggesting to replace the cooler for maintenance. Who's your hero?
