Very hard braking

1990 Buick Riviera 3.8, 162,000 miles auto transmission, front wheel drive

Just recently this car developed very hard braking. I have to push on the brake extremely hard to get it to stop. Hardly any pedal travel when depressed normally.
I did notice the fluid was low.

Make sure that your vacum going to the brake booster is good. Do you hear any hissing noise when you step on the brake???? I would say if the booster has good vacumn to it and the pedel is hard then the booster is faulty....
