Ignition key and lock tumbler replacement?

The key has a hole in it chip is missing. How much it cost to fix? And how do I go about fixing it? I think I need to replace the tumbler?

You will need to go to a shop or the dealer and the cost should be about $140.00 to have them make a key and program it for you then you can use these instructions to replace it. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

If everything works ok you might call the dealer and see if they have the code for that key by giving them your VIN number. You will have to show proof of owenership. Just contact the parts dept.

Theirs a single black wire coming from the ignition switch. Theirs no other wires with this single wire. I was thinking it has something to do with the vats system but really not sure. Can you guys tell me what this wire is for and where do it go?

Its not a ground it should be with a white wire it runs with the factory wire harness.

You need ignition switch itself (located in steering column) or the ignition lock cylinder (where the key inserts)? Let me know and I will post the proper replacement procedures.

How would I just remove the lock where the key goes in the ignition cause the ignition will not turn to the off position so the car will shut off it is a 1989 Buick Riviera have 5 dollars for this issue

If you are replacing the switch and not the lock cylinder, here are the directions. Also, yes it needs removed.

1989 Buick Riviera V6-231 3.8L VIN C SFI
Ignition Switch
Vehicle Steering and Suspension Steering Steering Column Service and Repair Removal and Replacement Ignition Switch
IGNITION SWITCH
WARNING Before preforming this procedure, disarm airbag as outlined under Airbag Arming and Disarming. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment of airbag, possibly causing personal injury.

Ignition Switches And Column Wiring

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
The ignition switch is hardwired. The wiring harness with the column harness connector must be replaced with the ignition switch. DO NOT splice the new switch to the existing column wiring harness.

1. Left hand sound insulator.
2. Instrument panel steering column cover.
3. Ignition switch wire protector.
4. Screws holding switch to column.
5. Ignition and turn signal switch column harness connectors from dash connector.
6. Turn signal switch harness connector from column harness connector.
7. Ignition switch assembly, including switch, harness, and connector.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Ignition switch.
2. Screws holding switch to column.
3. Turn signal switch harness connector to ignition switch connector.
4. Ignition and turn signal switch harness connectors to dash connector.
5. Ignition switch wire protector.
6. Instrument panel steering column cover.
7. Left hand sound insulator.
