Lesabre coolant leak not water pump or hose

1995 Buick Lesabre 3.8L 89,000 miles:
1995 Buick Lesabre coolant leak - Just above the water pump coming out of the block is a black PVC elbow that goes into a water housing behind the belt tension idler that eventually leads to the 2 heater hoses. This elbow is broke on both ends. I have removed the belt, the alternator and all of the visible bolts from this cast aluminum housing but cannot remove it. There appears to be a pivoting connection just below the tension idler. How does this come out so that I can remove the rest of the plastic elbow and properly install a new one? Do you have any tricks on getting the piece out of the block? I felt it drop down into the water jacket. I believe I am going to have big trouble getting this piece out!!!
