1995 Buick Lesabre possible blockage?

hi, ive a vague and difficult to answer question, but lets give it a shot. to start with, a fitting that screws into the passenger side of the intake manifold broke (it was a plastic fitting, that ive replaced with a metal one). this fitting was for the heater hose to hook up to. when it happened i was on the side of the road, and could not find the leak at the time.. so i used a 'bars leaks' product in an attempt to get my vehicle home.. and refilled it with water.. that night it got very cold and the system froze.. after many hours spent of defrosting the radiator and the block i found i now have a new problem.. the heater does not work, and after about 20 minutes of driving the car overheats.. i used a flush kit to flush the system, though i could not hook up the 'flushing T' properly, as the heater hoses are basically impossible to get to, let alone trying to hook up a hose to them and run the engine(the hose would be in the pulley system) so i used the hose and hot water to backflush the system in a sense. i just disconnected the top radiator hose and sent water into it. water came from both the top of the radiator when the cap was off, and from the thermostat housing(i removed the thermostat to ensure good flushing.) so the system was clearly not clogged. i suspect a clogging in the heater core, from the bars leaks product.. my question is: would this cause an overheat after a while of driving, and also would appreciate any suggestions on getting this thing going again.. the obvious next step is to remove the heater core and go from there(much easier said then done).. seems its going to require removal of the entire dash board. thanks for any help you can offer :)
