2005 Buick La Crosse Speedometer

Last weekend while driving my car, my speed on the speedometer jumped from 45 to 65 with out my having excelerated. Now when I drive down our local street, speed limit 40, my speedometer shows I am driving 60. If I go 40 everyone passes me. Can you give me a clue to what might have happened and what part I might need to get replaced?

Do u have a check engine light on?

I would suggest the use of scanner to check and determine the speed and if its the cluster and or speed sensor

have it hooked on to a scanner
better then throwing parts at it
