Noises problem
1992 Buick Century 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic Mid-Hi miles

Clattering noise around front of engine. Noise goes away with increase of RPMs. Changes or goes away when wheels turn. Changed out alternator and power steering pump thinking they might be source of noise, but it didn't. I thought it might be the water pump, but there is no evidence of leaks or bad bearings. Could it be harmonic balancer making noise?

Could be the timing chain or the serpentine belt tensioner-

As you suspected, the water pump and Harmonic balancer are also possibilities. I would try removing the belt to see how it responds without it and you can examine the individual components at that time.
