Buick Century Water pump Problem

My son has a1989 Buick Century with about 125,000 miles. He has had a small water leak, until yesterday when he pulled into work and it just started smoking and water started pouring out the bottom of the engine. Water pouring out as fast as putting it in. His motor sits side ways and was wondering if it could be the water pump or hose or what. A friend looked at it and said it could not be the water pump as it is in the front of the car. Water coming from about the middle of motor underneath. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Depends...look for a spit in the lower radiator hose, if no split look at corroded freeze plugs.
