No problem. The final stage unit, part number 64-11-6-923-204 will solve the problem. It is quite simple on the E-39 chassis. The trim piece under the glove box can be pulled rearward, with a firm but controlled tug, and set aside. Then there is a single Phillips head type screw in the carpet trim piece just to the left side in the passenger footwell. Remove the screw and pull the trim backwards to release the clips. Then there may be a big wad of gray foam, pull it out and you will see the final stage unit, ease the retaining tab back and release the electrical connector and there it is. It is quite straightforward and if you have the new part in hard, it is easy to visualize its replacement. Trust me, it is the problem and it is is one of those jobs that only requires a Phillips screwdriver and a flashlight and the new final stage. Realoem. Com for the part and price.
