I have a 1995 840Ci BMW and on the console it shows 3 red lights on the computer system display. I have tried pulling the battery out and nothing. I have heard that it might just be locked out, but the dealer wants 2,500 pounds to set I up on there computer.

2500 for a simple diagnostic test against the internal computer and system settings. It was working fine one day and the next the 3 red light were on and it would work. Someone I was talking to thinks that it could be the immobiliser system just being locked.

I hope you can excuse my shock at  2500 for what is basically less than 15 minutes of set up and scanning. I would try to avoid that facility if possible, just an opinion. The E-31 cars are few and far between so let me do some research and get back to you. Also, can you send a photograph of the dash during the fault? It would be helpful.

Here is the pictures of the console and the actual computer display showing the three red lights. These lights stay on even with the car off and locked.

This may well be an internal fault in the trip computer, I am still researching the issue and will return soon.
