1998 BMW 528 Engine Overheating and Heater not Working

A couple weeks ago I noticed that my heater in the car worked fine while moving, but only blew cold air when at a stop. Within the last couple days the car has begun overheating only when not moving. I'm not sure if these problems are related, but it would seem so. What could the problem be?
