I have just adjusted my valves on my BMW. The book said that the correct spec is.012, but the valves seem to be noisier than before they were adjusted and when I initially checked them the.012 feeler guage would not fit. Should I readjust to.010 which is the spec for the four cylinder engine? What is the correct spec for the 6 cylinder engine?

Both are right!
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENTS 1. Adjust valves in firing order (1-5-3-6-2-4), with piston of cylinder being adjusted at TDC of compression stroke. Use a feeler gauge to measure clearance between rocker arm eccentric and tip of valve. 2. To adjust valve clearance, loosen nut on rocker arm and insert a rod in eccentric hole. Rotate eccentric until proper clearance is obtained and tighten lock nut.
VALVE ARRANGEMENT Right Side - All Exhaust. Left Side - All Intake.
