Check brake light message on 525i

I have a 2003 BMW 525i and i recently got the "CHECK BRAKE LIGHTS" message. I checked all the brake light bulbs, including the deck stop lamp and they all appeared fine and all the brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed. I didn't see any signs of corrosion in the brake light holders either. What could be causing this message and how do I get rid of it?

this fault is often caused by a connector corroding. inspect all connectors and grounds and use only the BMW light bulbs. repost if you need more help.
P.S isn't the car still under warranty?

Unfortunately the warranty expired just prior to this problem (go figure). I did see another thread where this problem is usually fixed by replacing a switch behind the brake pedal. I think I will try that now since I haven't found any corrosion in the connectors.
