1997 BMW 523 CAR WONT TURN OVER

1997 BMW 523 Two Wheel Drive 188 50 miles
Hi there left the car standing for 6 months,battery water evaporated,somtimes the car startes by putting the car in first gear and rocking it.Do you think i need a new battery or could it be the altonater?

Battery age is a determining factor in the decision, if 5+ years then replace and check the alternator output as well. Too high and it will boil the water right off, it should not exceed 14.5 volts.
