My young nephew is rebuilding his vehicle, a BMW 520i (M20) E12. He does not have access to the internet and asked me to find out what type of crank trigger would be found on the vehicle. Is it optical magnetic, use gears etc? The people at his local BMW branch could not even tell him and I have not been able to find such detail on the internet. Would you perhaps know? Thank you, Dee Dee

The early E12 with the M20 motor did not rely on crank triggering. It uses a distributor and what history tells us is a carburetor, check this site: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do?kind=P&series=E12&body=Lim&model=520&arch=1
