Question
I've got a 2000 BMW 328i that's been making some awfully funny noises lately. It's recurring but seems to go on and off . . . . This time, however, it's staying for the long haul. The best I can describe it is as a scraping, grinding or flapping coming from the right rear passenger side. My question relates more to (1) how can I confirm this is the bearing or the axle that need to be replace? Thank you

Hi there,
Jack up the car and place on stands, feel for any free play in the bearing, grab the wheel top & bottom and rock there should be no movement, spin the wheel by hand, is there any noise? check the brakes and check for oil leaking from the axle, if unsure, get a mechanic to road test for you.
