I have a 1987 325es with 250K miles on it. my question is the compressor comes on aux. fan works correctly and it has a full charge of 134a. i realize that this was a r12 system but the pressures seem to be way to high. it will cool down to about 60 deg.F but the pressure on the low side is around 50psi and on the high side it is around 300 to 350psi. what could cause the pressure to be so high and it not cool as good?

there could be air in the system or the system could be overcharged. If the system required 1.86 lbs of R-12
and there was 1.86 lbs of R-134 installed then the system is overfull. The high and low pressures are dependent on the ambient temperature and humidity.
Try removing .25 lb. and repost your results along with ambient conditions
