1994 BMW 325 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I have A 94 bmw 325I C. Recently I have been noticing my car acting up, and I have seen it blowing blue smoke out the exhaust pipe. The engine kind of has this weird mud looking kind of substance when I open the engine oil cap. Can you guys help me out before I go to the repair shop? I just dont want to get ripped off. Please thank you!

Check the engine compression: could be valve seals/stems/guides-rings and cylinder wear
