2000 BMW 323 not going reverse

My car was driving fine until one day wouldn't go reverse, it drives forward, when I drive forward it sounds like something is hanging what can it be do I have to replace the transmission.

Transmission replacement is the cure, amazingly enough, the dealer is a deal at 2500 for a remanned unit, it's a question mark if the transmission comes from another car, I recommend thinking it over.
