Wiper Motor

My windshield wipers stopped working a few days ago in a major rain storm in my 1991 BMW 318IS. Go Figure, anyway I took the wipers off to check and see if the motor wasn't working. I noticed that the connection from the motor to the wipers had come apart. I tried for a couple hours to connect this back together. Can someone help me figure out how to fix this problem?

The connectors at the motor should be numbered
there are four wires, ground is the brown wire and goes to connector #31. The black wire with the yellow trace
will go to connector #1. The black wire with the white trace will go to connector #53b. The black wire with the red trace will go to connector #31b.
Also check fuse #5 30amp

Dr. Hagerty,

It's not the wires that came a loose. There is a metal rod that connects to the wipers that makes the wipers move left and right that snapped apart. I just cannot connect it back together because the rod will not move unless I have the wipers on. It always stop in the same place.

Thanks
