Engine Cooling problem

I am the owner of 1991 BMW 318i euro spec vehicle. I have been noticing recently that when I turn the car on and drive it for a while, the tempurature guage needle doesnt move. It says the enigne temperature is cold, instead of being in the middle where it should be normally.
