Hi,

Having a problem with my Audi TT 225BHP. Very frequently it takes a good while to start (several seconds). It has new battery. Then when it does start, the engine will rev around at 1500rpm to 2500rpm by itself. It will settle down after 5 minutes or so but it is very annoying. Anyone got any ideas what might be the cause? Thanks for your help!

Ok first how old is the fuel filter? How is the fuel pressure? If these haven't been checked they need to be. Hard starting like what you are discribing can be caused by there being no to little fuel pressure so it must build up pressure so it can start.

Thanks for your reply. What do you think may be causing the engine to rev by itself when the car is sitting idling. It does not always happen but it does very frequently. Could this problem be linked to the fuel pressure also?

Thanks.

Surging can be caused by fuel pressure changes or old spark plugs bad plug wire or bad coil on boot. It could be the coolant temp sensor is out of range or? So if you have a digital multi meter then we can do a couple of test on a couple of sensors and it they turn out good then checking the fuel pressure would be next. Tell me how old are the plugs? What plugs are you using" what all performance mods have been done to the car? The more info you provide the better I can help. Get back to me.
