Fuel Leak and strong fuel smell

I have a 1998 Audi A6 quattro, 2.8L, 78,000 miles and have noticed a strong fuel smell occassionally. i removed the rear seat, and the fuel pump housing and noticed a sheen coat of gas and an obvious fuel smell. I've read that the clamps on the two rubber fuel hoses sometimes are of poor quality and fail. There is also a connector in the center between the two fuel hoses. I don't know where the leak comes from. Any ideas what I should do?

i would suggest you replace the lines and see how it goes, never hurts to replace them.
