Engine Cooling problem
1996 Audi A6 All Wheel Drive Automatic

The cooling fans on my 1996 Audi A6 Avant do not come on. If they are direct wired to the battery they will come on. Where are the relay and fuse located. The manual does not show a fuse and does not give the location of the relay.

Hello and thanks for donating

The Coolant Fan Control relay is located on the auxiliary panel I, position # 2 (pic below). Also check fuse #11 (30 amp) in the fuse/relay panel and fuse # 42 (60 amp) in the auxiliary relay panel 2. I have also attached below the cooling fan wiring circuit for futher diagnosis if needed..

There is a fuse panel on the drivers side of the dash and a relay panel under the hood on the drivers side. Where is the other panel?

I have replaced #2 and #3 relay, 30 amp fuse #11, 60 amp fuse #42, and the thermoswitch in the lower radiator hose, the fans still do not come on. Any other suggestions?

You will need to test for power at the fan motor. If it is getting power but not coming on then the fan motor needs replaced. If it isn't getting power and all the fuses/relays and switch has been replaced or known good then the last component it would be is faulty fan control unit.
