1990 Audi 200 Cooling fan and gauge-inoperative

Engine Cooling problem
1990 Audi 200 Front Wheel Drive Manual 197000 miles

Hi, I am in South Africa, driving a 200 turbo. (MC)
The cooling fan, second speed, does not com on as it used to. I have checked the multi sensor switch (still have the four prong switch) and the terminals seem to be OK. i have found that there was no power on the swich. have picked up power, ran it through a fuse and then to the swich. then the 3rd stage fan would come on.
Still no 2nd stage, and my gauge is no working. as a result, I have noticed that the system seems to be running hot. this is driveng me nuts.
As I live in a small town, I do not have faith in the local guys, even the agents.
Please advise, as it would be appreciated.
this is a great vehicle, and I do not want to hurt it.
Thanks,
Binyamin
