I just had the serpentine belt replaced on my MDX that had not been driven for few years and belt was very noisy. Pepboys replaced it with a DYCO brand belt and now it is worse. Loud and squeeky. Took it back and they claim they replaced it again. No noise for few days and now it is again very loud. Mainly when I turn the AC on it get very loud. Tensioner was not replaced. This is a bank repossessed vehicle that was not driven for years, hence the 11000 miles on a 2006 model. Please advise.

Hi MDXBeltNoise,

When vehicles are not driven over extended periods, rust would form on the grooves of the pulleys. The rust would wear the belt very fast unless they are removed and the grooves smoothened out.

Check if the grooves are uneven with pocked marks on the grooved surfaces. If yes, unless the pullies grooves are polished or the pullies replaced, if not, any new belt would not last.
