I have an acura with the auto or manual transmission. I think that it is called "smart shift". Since I don't drive manual, I use the auto. It has a 5speed set-up and I drive in the D4 position. It changes into 1st quickly, but drags into 2nd & 3rd. Am I using the wrong gear?

Hi Robert,

When Auto mode is utilised, the gear shifting would depend on the throttle pressure and vehicle speed.

Attached is a table for the gear shifting. Using D4 or D5 should be similar only thing you won't get 5th in D4.

Under normal driving conditions, D5 would be the appropriate position but if drving speed is limited to low speed only, D4 would be more practical to prevent upshifting to 5th if it is not required.
