Under hard braking conditions, brake components, road and tires conditions affects how each wheel reacts. Some might lock up causing the vehicle to loose control as the wheel that locks up would tend to slide.

The wheel sensors monitors the situation and when any wheel that sends a signal that that wheel is locking, the ABS control system would release the pressure to that wheel by means of pulsations which are felt at the brake pedal. This would ensure safer braking.
