White smoke emmiting from your exhaust it usually caused by one of the following:

* Engine Compression low

* Water contamination in your diesel fuel

* Pump Timing or Engine Timing out

* Fuel starvation to the pump causing your fuel pumps timing to operate incorrectly

the compression is 260 on 1 and 6 300 on rest dealer said that was still within spec??. fresh diesel has been used also. they tell me the timing is unajustable and could not be the cause. they also have done fuel pressure test 26 and tested return line said all checked out. could it be possibe while it sits overnight it looses it diesel in lines from tank to cp3. then when cold started does not have anough pressure or diesel to start properly. they have told me this also could not be the problem.

White smoke is normally caused by heating problems-such as glow plugs or its control module. Diesel with an engine temperature below about 80 F. will produce some white smoke during the first few seconds after startup-Other causes of white smoke:

Burnt glow plugs
Incorrect Ignition timing
Compression problems - If a cylinder has significantly lower compression pressure than others. Minimum compression pressure should be 275 psi at cranking speed.
Blown Head Gasket
Poorly sealed piston rings
Leaky valves
Cracked Head
Cracked Block
Injector is stuck or not working
Clogged air filter
Defective waste gate such as an actuator, vacuum line etc.
Poor fuel quality
Low coolant temperature
