I'm trying to remove the rear brake drum to ciean/inspect the brake shoes. However, once I have removed the wheel & M4 or M5 torx screw, I still can't remove the drum. Do I have to remove the large centre nut holding the hub & bearing to the stub axle?

Greetings,

There is a screw holding the drum to the back plate. These tend to get rusted on though so you'll probably need an impact wrench to remove it but make sure you don't ruin the screw head. Once thats off you can use a rubber mallet on one side and a flat screw driver on the other, and gently pry around the edges until it starts to come off.
