Hi, I own the Honda Odyssey 2010 model (NHL edition, 2nd model up from base model) - all information tells me the van has a gas tank that holds 80 L - however since we have gotten it brand new, whenever I fill it from the gas light coming on, I only ever get 60 L. I also only ever get less than 300km on a full tank of gas. Which is horrible. I have 15,000 km on it right now. Is this normal

I SORTA RECKON YOU ARE GETTING 300 KLICKS FROM FULL DOWN TO "THE LIGHT"?

WHAT ARE YOU GETTING IN MPGs OR KPL?

THAT IS, FILL UP WRITE DOWN ODOMETER NUMBERS---DRIVE GOOD WHILE FILL BACK UP--WRITE DOWN ODOMETER AND AMOUNT FUEL TO REFILL IT----THEN DO ALL OF THE SUBTRACTION AND DIVISION

HOW MUCH ROOM OR CAPACITY DO YOU HAVE BELOW "THE LIGHT"? (SORTA DIDN'T MENTION THAT PART, IN DETERMINING TANK CAPACITY)

When the low fuel indicator comes on, it means it is in reserve mode whereby there should be at least 10L of fuel left.

Fuel consumption is subjective and would depend on driver habits, driving and road conditions. Short trips would not get you much on the mileage.

Okay. So why would a 2009 model odyssey fill (from the gas light coming on which leaves zero indicators to the E for empty) 80L as per the receipt and a 2010 model only fill to 60L? Both from the gas light and they both have similar kilometers on the odometer. I understand mileage depends a lot on how you drive, long/short distances, I get that. But, that has nothing to do with the size of the fuel tank! Does this mean the 2010 odyssey fuel tank which says it is an 80L tank, is actually smaller and only a 60L capacity tank? Honda says it is 80L. How can this be if I only ever get 60L when filling and even to include the "maybe" 10L in reserve. That is not at all close to what they say at 80L?

I am asking because my mileage sucks. And I want to know if this is something that I need to pursue with HOnda. They have brushed me off several times and I need to know if it is a problem with my van, or something normal or acceptable.

I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT

I ONLY SEE ONE WAY OF FINDING OUT YOUR TANK'S ACTUAL CAPACITY

DO LIKE ME

. CAUSE YOU CAN'T SAY NUTHIN', TILL YOU KNOW 100% FOR SURE, WHAT YOU HAVE!

I NEVER WORRY ABOUT RUNNING OUT OF FUEL!

I KNOW MY CANS WILL "COMFORTABLY" HOLD 4.8 GALLONS OF FUEL (5 GALLONS DOES NOT ALLOW FOR EXPANSION)

I KEEP BOTH CANS AT 4.8 ON BOTH JEEPS, NOT JUST FOR ME, BUT OTHER UNFORTUNATE SOULS ON THE ROADSIDE WILLING TO GIVE ME $50 FOR THE CONTENTS, SO THEY CAN BE UNDERWAY!

I AM THE ONE WHO BOUGHT AND MAINTAINS THE SYSTEM, SO I CAN PICK AND CHOOSE WHOM I'M MERCIFUL TO. BOY SCOUT MOTTO IS, "BE PREPARED"

RECENTLY I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT "OHMS VALUE" MY FUEL SENDER WAS PUTTING OUT IN "MR JEEP" (MY 1977 CJ5, WITH AN OVERSIZE TANK, AND MANY OTHER USER FRIENDLY MODIFICATIONS)

I WANTED THE VALUES FOR "FULL" "3/4" "1/2" "1/4" AND DEAD EMPTY

MY NORM HIGHWAY MILEAGE IS ABOUT 18 MPG

OVER A WEEK PERIOD, I WOULD WAIT UNTIL MY GAUGE READ THE APPROPRIATE "SETTING", THEN I WOULD PULL OVER AND DISCONNECT MY SENDING UNIT CONNECTOR. I WOULD THEN TAKE A READING USING MY VOLTMETER.

THE LAST DAY, I GOT MY "1/4" READING AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE COUNTRY ROADS UNTIL "MR. JEEP" RAN SLAP OUT OF LIQUID GOLD AND SPUTTERED TO A STOP. THE OHM READING WAS "84.8"---I NOW HAD ALL OF MY DATA!

HERE'S THE TRICK!

I GRABBED MY "MR. JERRY CAN"--POURED IN 4.8 GALLONS. PULLED OUT MY CHOKE, "MR. JEEP" FIRED RIGHT UP. I SECURED MY CAN. I THEN DROVE TO A SERVICE STATION ABOUT 2 MILES A AWAY. DOING THE MATH PERFECTLY.I FOUND THAT I COULD GET A TOTAL OF 22 GALLONS OF FUEL INTO MY AFTERMARKET "21 GALLON POLYETHYLENE TANK", FILL HOSE AND ALL. AND OF COURSE, ANOTHER 4.8 GALLONS REPLENISHED MY CAN.

SO THE MORAL OF THE STORY IS----RUN THAT PUPPY DRY---THEN REFILL IT. TAKE A CAN WITH YOU!

BELOW YOU WILL SEE

"MR. JEEP" 1977 CJ5 258 6 CYL---1:3.54 DIFF RATIO--18 MPG

"WILLY" 1946 CJ2A L-134 FLATHEAD 4 CYL---1:5.38 DIFF RATIO--12 MPG. BEFORE I INCREASED FROM 600X16 TIRES TO 700X16 TIRES.I NEED TO SEE WHAT IT GETS NOW!

"'LIL RED" 1995 4 CYL NEON I GAVE $250 FOR, 6 YEARS AGO (OWNERS THOUGHT IT WAS A LEMON) THE PROBLEM WAS, THEY SELDOM DROVE IT, NEVER GOT CHARGED UP. EVERYTHING WORKSGETS A WHOPPING 30 MPG!

AS FAR AS YOURS GOES---DO YOU KEEP UP WITH RECOMMENDED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE?

IS YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON?

DID ANY OF THE VIDEOS "ENLIGHTEN YOU", MAYBE INFO YOU DID NOT KNOW?

The fuel low warning indicator and gauge needle are not full proof. During installation, the low warning indicator could be set higher than specs and in this case you would have a reserve of 20L instead of 10L.
