Hey there,
So my car has a slight high pitch whistling noise when I start it up and when I go it seems to persist when im either speeding up or maintaining a constant speed. The sound is most noticeable and almost becomes like a warbling whistle at about 3000rpm. Not sure what it is, any ideas? A friend suggested that it may have to do with some oil leak or a torn diaphragm or something but I really dont know.
Do you
have the same problem?

Iam not real familiar with these astras I worked for saturn a very long time. The astra replaced the ion but we sold very few of these cars and if you look on the road you don't see many. So where a common vacuum leak area might be I have no clue. But like any vacuum you check the intake manifold area and vacuum lines etc for leaks. The best way to find a vacuum leak is to perform a smoke test. Where smoke is injected into the vacuum system and you watch for smoke to escape. Smoke machines are expensive to buy about 700. To have one done its about 100. You also get some carb spray and spray all around at idle and see if the idle goes up or down or the engine stumbles or dies?

You could try popping the serpentine drive off and and start it and see if the noise is gone? Don't run it long with belt off.
