I bought my 09 Chevy aveo from a reputable dealer in Sept 2013. It's been running great including the A/C till last week. I thought it might be low on freon. So I had the local shop check the freon level. I was told it's suppose to read at 30 but it's reading at 60. I didn't add anything to it. The compressor clicks on when the A/C is turned on. I drove away with more questions than answers. I was thinking just let some freon out. Then my neighbor said sometimes the condenser or filter in the front gets dirty and just cleaning it might solve it. I can't find it. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. The extended warranty I purchased with the car the Deductable is $100. Is there anything I can do that I can check and maybe save the $100? Then if no luck take it in. Thanks, jonathan

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with your 2009 Chevrolet Aveo's air conditioning system blowing hot air. While there could be various causes for this problem, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot before taking your car to the dealer:

Check Air Blend Door: The air blend door controls the mix of hot and cold air coming from your vents. If it's stuck in the wrong position, you might get only hot air. Check to see if the temperature control knob/slider is working as it should.

Inspect Cabin Air Filter: Some vehicles have a cabin air filter that can become clogged over time. A dirty or blocked cabin air filter might restrict airflow and impact the effectiveness of the A/C system. Check your vehicle's manual to locate and inspect the cabin air filter.

Clean Condenser and Evaporator Coils: If the condenser or evaporator coils are dirty or clogged, it can affect the efficiency of your A/C system. These coils are typically located in the front of the vehicle. While cleaning them might help, it's usually best to have this done by a professional to avoid damaging delicate components.

Check for Refrigerant Overcharge: While your system reading at 60 psi might indicate overcharging, it's important to note that the proper refrigerant levels can vary based on factors such as ambient temperature. Adding or removing refrigerant without proper knowledge can potentially damage your A/C system.

Inspect A/C Clutch: You mentioned that the compressor clicks on, but make sure the A/C clutch is engaging properly. If the clutch isn't engaging, it could result in hot air blowing.

Check Cooling Fans: Cooling fans help dissipate heat from the A/C system. Make sure the cooling fans are working as they should, especially when the A/C is turned on.

Thanks for getting back to me. It's not blowing cold at all. But you can hear the compressor click on. I don't know if it was on the. High or low readings. I don't remember them mentioning it. I was hoping it be something simple I could fix. It looks like I will have to drop it off at the dealer. But this is a great format to help people with car problems. I hope I won't need it again soon. But know where to ask in the future. Hey thanks for trying to help! Jonathan

Glad to help. Just so you know, since the pressure is high, chances are there is a clog in the system.

I dropped it off at the dealer this morning. They haven't looked at it yet. But when it's fixed I'll drop a note as to what it was.

Ya, I would like to know. If the 60psi was on the low side, my guess is the receiver dryer.
