2008 Chevrolet Truck Repair Question

Chevrolet Truck Engine Problem
I have a 2008 1500, that will turn the electronic fans on to cool the engine. The problem is the engine is not hot. Also when this happens the temperature gauge will not work. Tim

scan for codes and see if ect pops up it may be bad-engine coolant temp sensor.
