Volvo geartronic shift stuck
2007 Volvo XC70.
I parked on a slight grade and used the hand brake. Returned later, started car, released brake, shift to reverse but it was hard to shift. Geartronic will not go into forward automatic mode. The sticks seems to spring to the left (manual mode) and wants to stay there,.I can only shift manually as the selector feels as if there is a force pushing against the shifter when I try to go to automatic. What's happening and what do I do?

If the vehicle was on a steep slope, taking it from park could have been difficult causing damage to the shift linkage. I would check that first.
