I was hearing noises when steering so I brought my car to the shop. The mechanic said my high pressure steering tube was leaking and I should bring it to a nissan dealer to get it fixed. I've been refilling the power steering fluid every couple days for now and everything feels/sounds normal. I am trying to save up some money to get the fix. I just wanted to make sure it was ok to keep putting off the fix because the mechanic said it will all be fine as long as I keep the fluid filled up. Please help!

Fluid leaks in steel lines are caused by corrosion or stress cracks. Leaks in rubber hoses or the joints where they connect to steel lines are caused by deteriorating rubber. Neither of those are going to get better over time. More commonly whatever is leaking now can pop apart or crack completely. The total loss of power steering fluid can result in rapid overheating of the power steering pump and a much more expensive repair. My experience has always been what I put off for now costs me a lot more later.

It's true you may get away with just adding power steering fluid for a while but why keep on spending money on that when you could spend it on the hose?
