Drive shaft shear

I have a 2007 G35x. Yesterday the car broke down and was towed to the dealer. They are saying there was a some shearing with a bolt on the drive shaft and we could possibly need a new bell house and transmission. The estimate for repairs is $8000. I am wondering if this is a common problem with this model and if so, should the dealer cover this since we are no longer under warranty. If not, is it worth putting this much money into the car? Any help is appreciated.

I do not think this is a common problem but you should be able to get the job done at a cheaper price if you get a rebuilt trans or one from the junkyard.
