2007 Honda Civic Hybrid Repair Question

I stupidly put diesel in my gas tank, can I leave my car idling to get the diesel out of my tank it will that destroy my engine? Is taking it to a mechanic the only way to get it out? I have a Honda civic hybrid 07. Thanks

How much did you put in? this will determine what should be done.

I put half tank or just over in and there was 1/8 of gas in too.

A bit much to try and burn out, so the tank should be removed and flushed, blow out the lines and change the filter as well, if you try and burn this out with a long drive you will not do any damage it will just smoke a lot, if you try this you will have to keep topping up with petrol to dilute the diesel, and change the filter that is a must.
