The GM dealer is replacing the timing chains on my 2007 Acadia. They told me that the water pump is leaking and that I need to replace that now. My question: could the defective/underperforming timing chains have caused the water pump to not function properly and give out prematurely? Thank you!

No it more of a thing from having to cmoep back again when/if waterpump goes out. Normally when replaceing timing belt or chain you replace all the components so it will be ok and not have it come back for a waterpump problem.
