Timing marks on the harmonic balancer! Does the centre marking line up top dead centre? And on one side be off couple degrees forward? And other be couple degrees retarded? Or do these markings all need to be lined up centre with each other? Would there be a diagram available to download in relation to the timing chain replacement and setting.

Here is the instructions to replace the timing chain on the 2.3 and the 3.0 and 4.0. You will need some special tools for the 4.0 so be ready which I have listed as well. Look for the gray banner for the 3.0 and 4.0 to get started Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Yes---it does line up with tdc!

'Cept it only does it "one time" in two revolutions

The other time it comes up - the piston is at the top but you are at the end of the "exhaust stroke" and the beginning of the "intake stroke"

So with that, if you are turning the crank over you have a 50/ 50 chance of being on the "actual" top dead center" when the marks come around

Top dead center means:

You are at the end of the "compression stroke" and the beginning of the "power stroke"

Need more info on how to find tdc?

We can help!
