- OIL COMSUMPTION
2007 Buick Lucerne • 6 cylinder FWD Automatic • 60,000 miles
2007 Buick Lucerne : It has been about a year and the repair (Replacement of Exhaust Valve Stem Seals SB #05-06-01-035A) was preformed for the similiar problem. About 13,000 miles later the same problem is occuring again. Just as last time when approaching an oil change (~4000 after last oil change) the engine was down 1 1/2 quarts of oil. Performing an oil check with the dealer now. After 750 miles down ~ 1/3 of quart of oil. Waiting for the next 1000 miles to occur to see what happens. I keep getting told theat 1 quart of oil for 2000 miles is common for this GM engine but I don't buy it. What course of action should the dealer be looking at next?

The dealer has very high tolerances for oil consumption before they consider it a problem under warranty. Replacing the valve seals was more of a band-aid approach because if the valve guides are worn, it's only a temporary repair until it ruins the new seals too.
