Very loud thrashing noise coming from left axle area. Very noticeable at 2800 RPM's or higher. I jacked it up to find which side it was coming from. CV joint appears stable, but does appear to wobble slightly. The bearing is tight and is not making noise. Boot is intact on CV joint. What could be causing this?

This is most surely either the axle shaft or the bearing. If you sway back and forth when the noise is there does it go away when you load or unload the left side? If it does then this is the bearing.

If not then the axle shaft is most likely the cause even though you found it to appear tight. This can be misleading so I would suggest you lift the vehicle and put it on jack stands then spin the wheels to see if you can hear anything.

Let me know what you find and we can go from there. Thanks
