Engine runs great. No knocking or missing. Suddenly started smoking really bad every now and then. If I sit and idle for 10 min and take off it will smoke blueish smoke reallllyyyy bad around the time I shift into 3rd gear. It will not smoke if I sit and idle and rev it up it only smokes when under a load around 3rd gear. Using oil but no oil leaks

If it doesnt smoke when starting after sitting overnight I would say its probably oil rings causing the smoke. Have you inspected the pcv to see if its all sludged up?

I just looked into the pcv on your car and its actually part of the valve cover itself. There should be a nipple on the back side of the valve cover facing the engine with a hose going to it. The hose should be hooked to a vacuum source on the throttle body or intake manifold itself. Unless the hose is loaded with oil I wouldnt suspect the throttle body. Have you had the car since new?If so has the oil been changed regularly like every 3,000 miles?Or if your running synthetic oil every 5-6,000 miles?

Car belongs to friend. She has had it 5 yrs and changed oil regurly. One thing I havent mentioned is a month ago she had a leaking valve cover gasket that made a mess of the engine and filled the plug holes with oil. I changed the gasket and cleaned it up and there is no sign of leaking now. The part that has me confused is why it only smokes at certain times. It used 3 qts oil since last oil change 2 weeks ago. Before this happened it was never over half qt low between changes thank u for trying to help me

I have a friend that if his 1999 saturn sl2 idle a little while and he gave it gas it woukd smoke and other times under load. It didnt smoke when it sat overnight it passed emissions on the smog test but failed for the smoke. It burned a lot of oil we had to replace the engine. Oil consumption can sneak up on you suddenly thats why your suppose to check your oil frequently.
