2006 Renault Modus Repair Question

Whinning noise from under the bonnet, icreases with revs, sounds lick a pulsing diode, could it be the alternator, although no warning dash lights and shows no sign of low battery?
I have had the alternator bearings checked out and ok, with the belt removed the noise stops. belt drives alternator & air conditioning drive motor. Although the belt tensioner pulley spins ok without noise, going to try a new one? Any comments
