my mitsubishi eclipes shuts off. i can get about 3 blocks away

When it shuts off, if it doesn't immediatly restart, check to see if spark or fuel is missing. One will most likely be not working. From there, we can better diagnose the issue. My first guess is the fuel pump, but it needs checked to be sure.
