My truck cuts off while I'm driving, and sometimes won't start and a reduced power message is displayed in the dash. I had Autozone and Advance put the reader on it and got a P0601 code for internal memory error. I was advised to replace the ecm by one and replace the pcm by the other. Are they talking about the same part, and is the dealership the only place to flash and do the relearn process?

P0601 is the read only memeory of pcm they are talking about the same thing. Any garage with a scanner can install a pcm and reprogram it. They can put a rebuilt one in as well. It needs to be reprogrammed due to security issues. Dont' go to an auto parts and they say it's all set because it won't start.

Thanks. There is a $250 difference between the Autozone price and the Chevrolet price. Which would you buy?

Autozone is probably a rebuilt which should be ok if you have the gm part number check gmpartsdirect. Com they will be cheaper than a dealer as well.
