Is it possible when changing the timeing belt and water pump to somehow short out the computer system? I recently have had mine replaced by a non dealer reputable mechanic who now says it was a coincidence. I want to be fair but I also do not desire to be taken advantage of.

I don't think so-doing that kind of work, you should disconnect the battery-my way never know what can happen

If repairs were done according to standard operations procedures, the problem should not happen.

What is the problem you are facing?

The ac was not working when I picked it up and they tell me that coincidentaly the computer went bad at the same time, and I was just wondering if it was possible mechanic error or not. again I want to be fair with them.

If the A/C was working prior to the repairs, it is possible something was not done correctly causing it. If the computer for the A/C circit is not functioning correctly, that could have been due to a fault with the work resulting in the computer being damaged.

What is wrong with the computer? Is there any trouble codes?
