In winter, when driving at speeds of 80 km - 100 km, living in a regional area & travelling an hour away with the air conditioner on, I have noticed that pulling up at the first set of lights that the car is over revving. It is incredibly loud until I switch the aircon off. Lately it seems louder and while driving along the car seems to move on without any accelerating. I know there is a connection between the car starting up and the aircon but when it was new, it didn't do any of this, it was not as loud. Now I have to turn the aircon off every time I get near an intersection with lights on it and the motor stops revving and goes back to normal. I have asked my mechanic to have a look but can't see the problem. Would you be able to diagnose the problem please?

Since the problem is happening when the AC is on, it sounds related to the idle air control valve (IAC). The IAC is responsible for maintaining the engine idle speed. When the AC is used, it should allow the engine RPM's to slightly increase to compensate for the added load from the AC on the engine. It sounds like it is over compensating. I would check that first to see if there seems to be a problem with it. Start the engine and unplug it. Next, turn the AC on and see if there is NO change in the RPM's.

Let me know what you find.
