most likely due from the weak battery, you can follow this guide to get the codes

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

post the code(s) you get here and i will follow up.

Engine light currently on. In cool weather truck runs well, but when it gets hot the truck really surges and sputters. Any ideas?

Check engine light:

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Trouble starting. After about 3 cranks of the engine it starts after the 3rd. Check engine light recently came on because of this. What could issue be?

since the engine light is on the best thing to do is just take it to a local auto part store and ask them to retrieve your vehicle's trouble code(s). this should pinpoint the culprit.

Had to end up doing that.
Truck still runs fine.
Error code turned out to be a mis-fire code.
Have to replace the plugs and hope none of them break before it its done.

Thanks for the response

After you start the truck, when you shut it off, you have to wait about ten second for the check engine light to come back on. Will not pass inspection.

The check engine light go off when it running.
what I have found out is that this will happen after you rest the the computer or unhook the battery.
Until the computer goes through all it test.
Drove the truck all day yesterday and have two more incomplete, hopeful it will clear today.
Thank You

since engine light is on best thing to do is retrieve trouble code(s) that are stored by vehicle's computer, most local auto part stores will do this for free of charge. post the code(s) you get and i will follow up

The place to start is by reading the diagnostic fault code. That will indicate the circuit or system that needs further diagnosis. Many auto parts stores will do that for you for free.

I got in to leave started the truck put it in drive and truck did not want to go, check engine light came on, checked error codes and I have p0731 and p0732. Any ideas?

According to my Actron scan tool the Code 731 is a Gear 1 ratio is incorrect. Code 732 is a Gear 2 Ratio is incorrect.

Thanks Krski, I should have mentioned that I know what the 2 codes are. I just don't know why 1st and 2nd gear quit working at the car wash. Is there something that could have come unplugged or failed that is simple and I'm overlooking. If the speed sensor went bad would this happen? Being that the truck is just out of warranty I was hoping to find something that I could fix.

The car wash may just be a coincidence. Although the wire harness going to the tranmission may also have shorted from the water spray. iDid you try to clear the code and see if the MIL turns back on. Are you having any apparent problems with the transmission. I have a feeling that it is an electrical bug.

I have a 2006 f-150 that was purchased recently and my service engine light appeared on in route from work the other day. I have a obd2 engine checker that has been useful for many years, but it will not work on this truck, it flashes 8s (malfunction) when attempting to scan. The truck has a intercooled roush supercharger installed on it and I know the pcm was sent to them for re-programing as part of the supercharger install. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the issue or is the truck running off a different system that my scanner is not compadible with?

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

Often it is the case that with later model cars you find that generic scanners are not 100% compatible, as i don't know what was re programed exactly, more than likely it will be fuel delivery parameters, you may have to try a genuine Ford scanner first, and if this is not the answer i would contact the company that did the re programing and ask their advice on what is the best system to use to access any new imputs that they may have made.

Mark,
Thanks for the prompt answer, I appreaciate it. I will take your advise. I was under the impression that any scanner that was obd2 compliant would read trouble codes, but the scanner I have iis about 8 years old and they have changed dramatically since then.
Happy Holidays, Pat

usually when that light comes on it means a problem with an emissions related item. what i would like you to do is pay attention to your fuel economy and check your gas cap and make sure it is tightened untill you hear those clicks several times. i know it sounds stupid, but your engine light will come on if. you gas cap isn't tight. crazy huh? let me know what happens

I had this same problem with my 2005 F-150...after talking to my mechanic and checking with Ford, they said that it besides the gas cap issue, it could be that I had some bad gas in my tank. If I allowed it to run through approx. 3-4 tanks of gas in a mixed use of running (i.e. highway, surface streets, and freeway) it would turn itself off once it had flushed the problem. This worked, after 3 tanks of gas the light went off and stayed off.

CEL stays on, no oil leak but is burning quite a bit. Sometimes trucks idle rough at stop but will smooth out if given gas. I already replaced spark plugs, fuel injectors and spark plug coil boots. Then had oil pressure check done-code 68 warm 15 (not sure what that means but was told oil not getting to the top of engine. Then removed front cover to replace tensioners, phasers, #5 cop for RF interface to bank #2 solenoid, coil asy and had oil changed. They also performed vital fluid analysis & inspected fuel/air intake sys.. Have taken truck from one dealership after another and still can't find problem. Tired of spending money and problem still there. Please help!

Then had oil pressure check done-code 68 warm 15 (not sure what that means but was told oil not getting to the top of engine. You need to have the oil pressure check to determine why-Is the engine knocking?

No oil leak and burning quite a bit-its burning in the combustion chamber-Check the engine compression to determine if its valves or rings.

I brought my truck to the Ford dealership for an oil leak and check engine light, but it was running fine. They fixed the leak and the check engine light is off, but now when I hit the accelerator the there is a slight jerking that almost feels like its not getting fuel right. This wasn't happening before. They said they had to reset the Keep Alive Memory and that the truck has to relearn some things and that this could be the reason for it. They said if it continues after a few days to bring back. Does this make sense to anyone?

You may have got the code P0603....Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error.
when resetting the memory , computer have to relearn how to make small adjustments to the fuel mixture and other functions over time as the vehicle accumulates miles.it may take awhile to relearn the driver's habits so the transmission may not shift exactly the same as before.it may be a glitch or a problem with the computer'
drive the car few days and see if the light comes back or the jerking will go away.if the light comes back or the jerking persist, take the car back so it can be diagnose again.
